Privacy Policy — Murmur
This Privacy Policy describes how the Murmur mobile application (the “App”) handles information on your Android device. Murmur is developed and published on Google Play by TriCode Studio (“we”, “us”, or “our”).
Murmur is built so that we cannot see your data. Your voice recordings, transcripts, and action items are stored only on your device, and speech-to-text runs on your phone’s own processor. We operate no servers that receive, host, or process your content.
1. The Short Version
- We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data.
- Transcription happens entirely on your device — audio is never uploaded, to us or anyone.
- No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising or tracking SDKs.
- All recordings, transcripts, action items, and settings stay in the App’s private storage.
- Audio is recorded only when you start a recording, and is always shown by an ongoing notification.
2. Data We Collect
None. Everything you create in Murmur stays on your phone:
- Voice recordings you make, and audio files you choose to import.
- Transcripts, generated locally by an on-device AI model.
- Note titles, action items, and app settings.
None of this leaves your device through the App.
3. How Transcription Works
Murmur downloads an open-source speech-recognition model (a Whisper-family model) once. From then on, all transcription runs offline on your device — including in airplane mode. Your audio is never sent to any transcription service.
4. Network Access
The App uses the internet for exactly two things:
- Downloading the speech model — a one-time download of model files from public hosting (Hugging Face / GitHub). The request contains no personal data and no audio.
- Google Play Billing, if you choose to purchase Pro (see section 6).
There is no other network activity: no telemetry, no analytics, no crash uploaders, and no ads.
5. Permissions We Request
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — to record your voice notes; used only while you record.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — shows the ongoing-recording chip and transcription progress. Optional; the App works if you decline.
- Foreground service — microphone — keeps a recording you started running when you switch apps or lock the screen. Recording never starts by itself and is always visible as an ongoing notification with a Stop action.
- Internet — solely for the one-time model download and Play Billing, as described above.
6. Purchases
Pro upgrades (a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase) are processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We never receive your payment details. Google’s handling of the transaction is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. The App stores only a local flag that Pro is active.
7. Sharing You Initiate
If you use Share or Export, the transcript text or audio file is handed to the app you choose (email, messaging, files, and so on). From that point it is governed by that app’s privacy policy. Murmur never shares anything on its own.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
- Delete any note in the App (long-press) — its audio file, transcript, and action items are removed.
- Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all App data, including downloaded models.
- There is nothing to delete on our side, because nothing is ever stored on our side.
9. Children’s Privacy
Murmur is not directed at children under 13. Because the App collects no data, no personal information from children (or anyone else) is processed by us.
10. Changes to This Policy
If the App’s data handling ever changes (for example, an optional cloud feature), this policy will be updated first and the date above will change. Material changes will be noted in the App’s release notes.

Earlier versions of this app were published as “JotJive” (an offline notes & voice-journal app), which likewise stored all data locally. This policy supersedes the JotJive policy following the app’s relaunch as Murmur.
